Step-by-step guides for using Coilinx on the shop floor.

Material Types

Use Material Types to define the kinds of stock Coilinx tracks.

What this is for

A material type describes what you are receiving — wire gauge, filament type, spool size, pricing, and how density or length should be calculated. Receive Stock and Reports both rely on material types being set up correctly.

Before you start

Open Settings. Most admins and operators can access Manage Types from there.

Steps

  1. Tap SettingsManage Types.
  2. Tap to create a new material type.
  3. Enter the material name your team recognizes on the shop floor.
  4. Add size or measurement details (units your team uses for that material).
  5. Add pricing details if your company tracks inventory value in Reports.
  6. Set up density if your workflow uses weight-to-length conversion. Coilinx can guide you through measuring a sample or entering a known density.
  7. Save the material type.
  8. The type now appears on Receive Stock when adding new items.

Tips

  • Create types before receiving stock — an empty material type dropdown on Receive Stock means no types exist yet.
  • Use the same units your team already uses when measuring that material.
  • If Reports show dashes for value, review pricing on the material type.

Common issues

Receive Stock says the material type list is empty

Create at least one material type in Settings → Manage Types.

I am not sure which unit to use

Match the unit you use when physically measuring that material (feet, inches, pounds, etc.).

The item value looks wrong in Reports

Check pricing fields on the material type. Incomplete pricing leads to missing values in Current Value and related reports.

Density setup is confusing

Follow the in-app density flow: measure a sample spool or enter a known density value. See Manage Types → density screens for step-by-step prompts.
